Race for Life Stoke on Trent 2014 · 10 June 2014 ·

We‘re the world‘s leading cancer charity dedicated to saving and improving lives through research. We fund research into the prevention, detection and treatment of more than 200 types of cancer through the work of over 4,000 scientists, doctors and nurses.

Story

Breast Friends is a group of 6 ladies and some of their friends and family.

The 6 of us all aged between 40 and 50 met just over 3 years ago whilst studying at Staffordshire University.  During that time 1 needed to have a breast biopsy, 1 was refered to a breast surgeon for further examination, 1 needed surgery twice for non-malignant breast disease, 1's sister underwent a mastectomy and another 1 was diagnosed with stage 2 breast cancer and needed surgery, radiotherapy and is now taking tamoxifen.

These events, in a relatively short period of time in a random group of friends brought home to us all the fact that malignant and premalignant disease is common.

We also became aware of the huge advances in breast cancer care over the past few years largely due to research and trials.

Our aim is to raise funds for further cancer research to help the next generation to beat this disease.
