On Saturday, August 17, my cousin, Kacy did something wonderful for the world. She raised over $2000 for the #18for18 skydiving event by the Somaly Mam Foundation (check it out here). My inspirational cousin jumped out of a plane to help fight sex trafficking.

I was so inspired by Kacy (I always am. She always does the coolest things and is a very beautiful and loving woman), and I was totally jealous that I wasn't the one doing it! The following day, I was on Twitter, and I follow the Amy Winehouse Foundation (@AmysFoundation). The AWF tweeted that day that they were looking for 30 individuals to raise pledges and skydive in Cambridgeshire to celebrate Amy Winehouse's 30th birthday. I got Kacy's blessing first (I'm not trying to be a thunder stealer here :/), and now I too will be skydiving. I move to the UK on September 21, and the day before Fall semester starts (September 29), I will jump out of a plane to support this amazing cause.

Amy Winehouse is one of my favorite artists to listen to. Her jazz-born voice is unparalleled in my book. And when she passed away in 2011, I felt so much for everyone that she knew personally. Though a heavy figure of controversy in the tabloids-- she's somebody's daughter. She's somebody's sister. She's somebody's friend, their confidante, their soulmate, their anything, their everything. She was so much more than a voice and a discography; she was a passionate and kindhearted soul. I read that her parents set up a foundation to prevent the effects of drug and alcohol misuse on young people while also supporting, informing and inspiring vulnerable and disadvantaged young people to help them reach their full potential. That's a cause I can pour my love into. And I am very greatful for this opportunity.
