Every day 6,000 people become carers. Many dont know how or where to get help. It can be frightening and very lonely.For some its sudden: someone you love is taken ill or has an accident, your child is born with a disability. For others, caring creeps up unnoticed: your parents cant manage on their own any longer; your partners health gets gradually worse. For carers, such as Alison, who spent years caring for her late mother who had breast cancer, bowel cancer, diabetes, two strokes, and vascular dementia, and losing her husband, it was a call to the Carers UK Adviceline that made all the difference:I really was at the end of my tether with no one to support or help me. That was when I called the Carers UK Adviceline and spoke to a Listening Support Volunteer. I was so relieved to have somebody listen to me. Alison Blackhurst, who cared for her mother for 3.5 years.
