The last couple of years of my father's life were marred by dementia and depression, which changed the man I loved beyond all recognition and put huge pressure my mother and our family.  This was my first exposure to mental illness and I encountered huge misconception about my father's circumstances and, despite our best efforts, we failed to find the right engagement from both the medical community and the larger community to support both him and my mother.  It's only subsequently that I learned what Mind could have done to help and so we nominated it as our chosen charity at his funeral and I see this walk as an opportunity to do a little more in his memory.
