Story
On Sunday 1st May 22 I hope to run the 40th Belfast City Marathon. It will be my first full marathon after many times running in the marathon relay, so the training this time around has been long and hard.
Hopefully, I am almost ready to go!
I am raising funds for Friends of the Cancer Centre. Many of my family and friends have received treatment for Cancer in recent years. Only a few weeks ago I accompanied my Dad, who has prostate Cancer, to the Cancer Centre for his radiotherapy treatment.
Running the marathon will be emotional for me, as I know whilst
running past the City Hospital in Belfast I will be thinking of everyone who has had and are continuing their Cancer treatment.
Friends of the Cancer Centre has been dedicated to making a real and meaningful difference to cancer patients and their families across Northern Ireland for over 35 years. The charity does this by funding 38 additional members of staff, including 13 specialist nurses, supporting local research and providing practical support to help patients and their families through a really difficult time. Their work focuses on three key areas – patient care, patient comfort, and research – supporting the services provided by the Health Service. In the last year, the charity has invested over £1.13 million into local cancer services through the life-saving and life-changing work they support.
Friends of the Cancer Centre relies entirely on the generosity of the local community and all money donated stays in Northern Ireland, directly benefitting patients and their families.
Thank you for your support!
