English Channel Relay 2022
Campaign by SwimTayka (RCN 1176079)
The English Channel swim is seen as the Mount Everest of all swims as more people have climbed Mount Everest than have swum the English Channel. Swimmers will take part in a relay team of 6 from Dover to France, with the swim taking 12 - 18 hours.

Story

Thanks for taking the time to visit my JustGiving page.

I am taking part in a Channel Relay swim in summer (August) 2022, for Swim Tayka, a charity that works in countries like Peru, Brazil, Mozambique and Indonesia providing free swimming lessons and environmental education about clean water stewardship.

Globally drowning claims more than 360,000 lives per year and those most at risk are children; what is more tragic is that these losses of life are preventable.

The Swim Tayka website link is here https://swimtayka.org if you want any more information; I will post updates on their work regularly as we get towards the swim.

As far as the swim goes there will be 4 of us in the team - swimming for an hour at a time, for the 19 nautical miles across the Channel, (notwithstanding the effect of wind and tides), in 15-16 degree water.

I will be doing a range of preparatory/training events to build up to this (the Chill Swim in Coniston Water, BLDSA Torbay and the Thames Marathon).....as well as getting used to cold water!
