We We raise funds for people with Dementia to improve their quality of life

Story

Thanks for taking the time to visit my Just Giving page.

In 2006 I founded what is called the Boundary 500 Motorcycle Group with the sole aim of raising much needed funds for the Great North Air Ambulance and Zoe's Baby Hospice.

To date our Group has now raised in excess of seven hundred thousand pounds for these two charities in twelve years.

A couple of years ago we also started sponsoring a 'Dementia Cafe'. The cafe has now been renamed 'No Boundaries Cafe' and is run in partnership with Stockton Libraries, Brew House Cafe and Teesside Dementia Link Services with support from Thornaby New Town Centre.

The New Boundaries Cafe is held at Thornaby New Town Centre between 2pm and 3.30pm on the second Friday of every month and all are welcome.

From a personal point of view I have a passion for Motorcycling and have travelled extensively in the UK and Europe.

I am 68 years of age and a Type 1 Insulin Diabetic. In April 2017 I was diagnosed with Cancer and thanks to the expertise of the NHS and being laid up for a few months am now fit as a lop and need to get out there to help others.

I have ridden extensively in Scotland and there are some fantastic roads and scenery but this time I intend to cover the NC 500 mile route in under 24 hours.

The distance itself is not a real challenge but the large proportion of undulating roads and hills can be. Plus I will need regular stops to check blood levels and if insulin is required etc.

Why Teesside Dementia Link Services, well having lost my dad to Dementia in 2011 and my mother in May 2018 I have had experience at first hand for a number of years the heart break and trauma that this condition can create. To hold a loved one in your arms as they pass away, a shadow of their former self is something that will stay with me for ever.

Plenty of tears have been shed and its at times like this when support and guidance is so important.

The last few years I have received at first hand the superb support that is available from Teesside Dementia Link Services

I consciously try and only collect money for organisations that deliver within the area I reside and spend any money raised within that area and not a penny on executives wages. Nursing staff wages not an issue.

There are too may corporate institutions that pay executives high wages with all sponsorship money going in to a central pot for the country.

The next time anyone donates please ask if your donation can be 'Ring Fenced' to stay within the area you live. You may be surprised by the answer.

In 2020 we as a Group hope to arrange some kind of event solely to raise money for Teesside Dementia Link Services.

In the meantime I am taking part in this Personnel Challenge to say a big thank you to all those that have supported me and my family through really bad times.

Dementia has been described as the new Cancer and is an awful condition. Remember the condition effects all of the family but there is support available.

The Boundary 500 are on Face Book and all updates will be placed there.

Please support us. Every pound is precious
