Story

Thanks for taking the time to visit my JustGiving page.

Brian spent the last few years as a member of the Friends of the Calvert Trust, raising money for the Lake District Calvert Trust. During this time he set up a thriving annual event in the form of an outdoor play in the beautiful setting of Lowther Castle, this event enabled Brian to incorporate many of the things he loved - Helping others, entertainment, the beautiful Lakeland surroundings and spending time with his grandkids. He spent an incredible amount of time arranging "An evening with Chris Bonnington" including a mountain art auction which was unfortunately scuppered firstly by COVID and then ill health, and he enjoyed just shaking a collection tin at Tebay services, with new friends, to raise money for this incredible cause to allow access to Lakeland adventures to those with various disabilities. Therefore Brian would have wanted one last chance to make a difference and raise money for the charity that was so close to his heart.

About the charity

The Lake District Calvert Trust provides residential outdoor activity courses for people of all ages with physical, sensory, learning, behavioural and/or mental disabilities. Its mission is to challenge disability through outdoor adventure. Pioneering equipment adaptations, and intensive, instructor-led activity programmes (that include climbing, abseiling, canoeing, sailing, horse/trap driving, archery, orienteering and paragliding), provide an environment whose aims are to teach, challenge, motivate, engender confidence in ability, promote independence, and foster integration. All instructors are highly trained and specialist qualified, and the facilities are specially adapted and fully accessible to all. The Lake District Calvert Trust provides a unique and life-changing experience for those with disabilities, who are encouraged to believe that it’s what you CAN do that counts.
