Busathon for Tuvalu · 13 April 2015

The Council for World Mission is a cooperative of 31 Christian denominations worldwide with a common commitment to God's mission. The council exists as a forum for mutual support, an exchange of news, ideas and people, and as a pool of financial resources.

Story

The eight little atolls of Tuvalu were overshadowed in the media when disaster struck their much larger neighbour, Vanuatu, but they too experienced the fury of cyclone Pam with devastating effect.

  • homes have been damaged
  • crops destroyed
  • water tanks - the only source of fresh water - cracked
  • graves uncovered
The Governor General has declared a state of emergency and the Ekalesia Kelisiano Tuvalu (Tuvalu Christian Church) has issued an appeal for help.
In response to this appeal I am planning a busathon, visiting eight English cathedrals - representing the eight islands of TU(standing)VALU(8) in 5 days using only local bus transport.
Here's the programme:
Monday April 13th
   to Winchester for Nukulaelae
Tuesday April 14th
to Salisbury for Nukufetau & Wells for Vaitupu
Wednesday April 15th
   to Gloucester for Niutao
Thursday April 16th
to Hereford for Nui & Worcester for Nanumanga
Friday April 17th
to Lichfield for Nanumea and Coventry for Funafuti

Just to make it a bit more of a challenge  will try to live on £5.24 a day - the amount our government allows an asylum seeker - no promises but if they can do it why shouldn't I.
