Beatson Challenge Arrochar · 13 June 2015 ·

Beatson Cancer Charity supports people affected by cancer, every step of the way. We make the journey easier by transforming the way cancer care is funded and delivered. We provide services, as well as funding specialists, research and education to invest in a better future for cancer patients.

Story

Brian Chalmers died on 16th November 2013 after a short but difficult battle with a rare cancer called metastatic paraganglioma. Nobody who knew Brian would be surprised to know that he faced his illness with great courage and extraordinary stoicism. In the days after his death, his family and friends agreed that they would like to raise money in memory of Brian that might lead to better treatments for patients with cancer.

Brian was a mountaineer, fell runner and hill walker who loved the Scottish mountains. We can think of no better to way to honour his memory than to undertake 'Challenge Arrochar'. In one day we will attempt to ascend three peaks in the Arrochar Alps, covering 11 miles and climbing a total of 6,250 feet. That’s 40% more than going up Ben Nevis!

While Brian would have managed this quite easily well in to his 70's, for us it will be a significant challenge! So we would be extremely grateful if you can support us in our efforts to raise money for the Beatson Cancer Charity by donating to the Brian Chalmers Tribute Fund.

Joanne and Anthony will be taking on Challenge Arrochar together with their loyal and brave friends Caroline and Mark.

Brian's son Anthony is an oncologist and cancer researcher working in Glasgow. He was very involved in establishing the Beatson Cancer Charity and his family and friends are delighted to have this opportunity to raise funds to support the important work it does.

Please don't hesitate to get in touch with Anthony if you would to find out more about the ways in which the Beatson Cancer Charity is supporting patient care and ground-breaking research in Glasgow and beyond.
