Story
From the 19th-23rd of July, I will cycle 500 km, from London to Paris, in 4 days to fundraise for the U.K. charity “Action Medical Research”
Like most of us, I learned the joys of cycling as a child whilst growing up in Belgium. Yet, it’s only since moving to London, where cycling is (mostly) the fastest and greenest way to get around, that I got a bug for longer treks. My brother-in-law, John, even introduced me to triathlons, which has a 40 km cycling component. Whilst I've completed a few longer rides, cycling 125km during four consecutive days is something I have never done.
I’d like to take on this challenge to fundraise for a cause very close to my heart. Sadly many children never had the opportunity to enjoy the joy of cycling due to disability, disease and poor health. It saddens me that medical research tackling childhood diseases is poorly funded in the U.K. and hence why it is so important to support the work of the charity, Action Medical Research.
Action Medical Research, a U.K. charity, was set up in 1952 and has funded research projects leading to some of some of the most significant medical breakthroughs in recent history that have helped save thousands of children’s lives.
Currently this charity is funding 55 projects, including research into COVID-19 and children, asthma, prematurity, epilepsy, cerebral palsy, leukaemia and some rare and distressing conditions.
Thank you very much for any contribution, small or large, to help this charity fund this vital research for children.
