THE MISSION
To run the 50 miles (Eastbourne Pier to Bough Beech) in 12 hours and to raise 50K for Macmillan Cancer Support in the process.
THE ROUTE : https://www.mapmyrun.com/routes/view/3273420466
This is a beautiful, hilly, mostly off-road 50 miler that takes in my 2 main training grounds for ultra running from the last 10 years.
Starting at 7.00am at Eastbourne Pier the first 10 miles takes in the start of the official South Downs Way (SDW) passing Beachy Head and the rolling Seven Sisters.
From Cuckmere Haven there we head north following the course of the river until we get to Alfriston and then head up onto the SDW for a further 5 miles until we get to the radio masts due south of Glynde.
From Glynde (20 miles in) we head north until we get to the edge of the Glyndebourne estate and then head north-west on a series of footpaths until we get to Barcombe Mills and the River Ouse.
We follow the Sussex Ouse Valley Way for a further 5 miles before making The Griffin Inn in Fletching for lunch (30 miles). Hopefully joined by a few family and friends we then head north out of the village before taking bridle paths to the foothills of the Ashdown Forest at Cackle Street and make our way to the high point of the forest at Bushy Willows Car Park (37 miles).
From here we descend to Balls Green then make our way back to the parish of Chiddingstone via Blackham and Chiddingstone Hoath.
A final pint at the Rock Inn should see us make Bough Beech in time for a 7.00pm arrival.
Mission is to run the 50 miles in 12 hours and to raise 50K for Macmillan Cancer Support in the process.
Macmillan Cancer Support are the national charity partner of the Castle Triathlon Series. Their fundraising has been seriously affected by the COVID-19 pandemic and I hope that your generous contributions will in some way make up for that shortfall.
