Story
At the start of 2022, my Dad, (and company chairman for some of us as well), was diagnosed with Motor Neurone Disease (MND) and in September 2022, my partner Rob, and some of our wonderful friends, and some of the amazing team from Blake Emergency Services took on the 25km Thames Bridges Trek with me to raise as much money as we can for the Motor Neurone Disease Association (MNDA).
MNDA are a wonderful group of people who support people with MND, as well as their families, and who are working hard to find a cure for this disease. The money we raise will be split 80% to MNDA's incredible research work, and 20% towards the branch local to Dad, (Cheshire branch) who are working tirelessly to support local families and people affected by MND to show our gratitude to them.
MND gradually stops messages from the motor neurones reaching the muscles causing them to weaken and waste. This life limiting disease affects people in different ways – it can affect how you talk, walk, eat, drink and even breath. Not all symptoms affect everyone with MND, the order of the symptoms is not predictable, nor is the speed, all of which makes the course of the disease difficult to predict.
This cruel disease affects 1 in every 50,000 in the UK each year so people, doctors and researchers are trying to learn more about it and hopefully one day find a cure.
Starting at Putney Bridge, the Thames Bridges Trek is a 25km walk crossing 16 of London bridges that zig zag across the River Thames, and finishes at the famous, impressive Tower Bridge, hopefully with a glass of fizz!
It would mean so much to all of us doing the walk and those who know someone who has MND and their family, if you would sponsor us to support the charity which is helping all those living with MND. This is our way of giving back and saying thank you for the help they are giving to Dad, Mum and me.
A massive thank you from all of us,
Abi, Rob, Em, Oriana, Jo, Cal, Spike, Jan, Glyn, Marc, Dimple, Andi, Richard and Leigh.
xx
