Story
Thanks for taking the time to visit my JustGiving page.
I have always believed in the positive benefits of being outdoors, and walking is an easy and enjoyable way to both exercise and foster those benefits.
It raises the levels of endorphins in the body needed for mental health and helps with physical fitness.
You can walk anywhere, it sounds simple but you really do just put one foot in front of the other and keep going.
I am particularly lucky to live in the beautiful Tamar
Valley and have easy access to Dartmoor and Bodmin Moor, and I’m not that far from the coast so there are plenty of places to go.
I also like a challenge!
So - I was idly scrolling through Facebook with a glass of wine one February evening and came across Ultra challenges.
Oh my! what a revelation.
100k challenges either walking continuously or over 2 days with a night’s rest in the middle. I worked out that it was probably about 12 hours walking including rest stops each day. Why not I thought?
I then had a minute or two of sensibleness and had a look at them. Several of them are hilly! I’ve walked 26k over Dartmoor climbing 12 Tors and by the end of that my knees were screaming. I’m also 62! So, which one is the flattest?
The Thames Path Challenge from Putney to Henley via Runnymede. Before I could change my mind, I signed up!
Then various events overtook me, and I put it aside for a few months. However, in that interim period I got talking to Sam Jackman, who’s parents are good friends of mine and she told me about Boost.
Could I do something to help? I was already signed up for the challenge and now I had a good reason to really go for it.
I’m walking for the Primrose Foundation who will use the money to buy the products and give them to women who have had mastectomies and do not want or cannot have reconstructive surgery.
So, to the training!
My walk starts September 7th & 8th starting on a Saturday morning and hopefully ending on Sunday evening. I’m essentially a morning person so hoping for an early start.
