At Alzheimer’s Society we’re working towards a world where dementia no longer devastates lives. We do this by giving help to those living with dementia today, and providing hope for the future by campaigning to make dementia the priority it should be and funding groundbreaking research.

Story

My mum was diagnosed with dementia about 4 years ago. We knew her behaviour had changed and once she was diagnosed It became easier to understand what may happen for the future. But still I dont think that can fully prepare you for the roller coaster emotions you are put through.

My mum was a very happy go lucky woman, always saw the bright side of things and always put everyone else before her, her family was her life, she brought us all together on many occasions.

Dementia changes everything about that person, it takes away their pride, and sense of individuality, I became my mums main career, something I know she never would have wanted to see me do, but she cared for me her whole life so now it was my turn to return the favour.

I made some very hard choices about her care and where she was going to live, I just had to think about what would make my mum the happiest, as she was no longer able to tell me and communicate with me fully.

To raise money I willl be climbing Ben Nevis, the tallest mountain on the British Isles, I know it will be a challenge as my daughter done it in May to raise money also in her nan's memory. It will be a great challenge but an even greater acomplishment, and I hope I can help this chairty in some way.

Even if I can raise, £10, £50 or a £100 I would be happy, anything to help the Alzheimer's charity so they can help families and others like my mum. So any donation would be very much appreciated by me and my family.

Thank you

David
