British 10k London Run 2008 · 6 July 2008 ·

We play a vital role in supporting young people facing a complex combination of difficulties, including medical and mental health conditions, learning needs and disabilities, and heart-breaking personal circumstances. Our unique farm provides a nurturing environment that enables them to grow

Story

I don't run.  I'm the person who sniggers and thinks 'why?' when friends say they are doing a 10k or a half marathon.  When people used to ask me if I ran, my stock response was 'Do I look stupid?'

So what has come over me, why this change of heart?

I love Whirlow Hall Farm and I am totally committed to helping raise as much money as possible to help them give an experience of farming life to as many children as possible from inner urban environments.  I've seen the children's faces when they're on the farm.  I've also spoken to children who can't tell a cauliflower from a parsnip or who think that eggs come from Asda (not chickens).

So I've put on some running shoes and discovered just how hard it is to push yourself through the pain barrier and run even 2 miles, never mind over six.  I'm persevering.  Please encourage me further by digging deep and sponsoring me online.

UPDATE In the last few weeks before the event I have been very lucky in that Esporta have offered to train me.  I am finding it so helpful - I actually believe that I can do it now.

UPDATE It is just 9 days before the run, the fundraising has taken off and I've about hit my target BUT a physiotherapist has advised me against running between now and the race because I'm getting a lot of referred pain from my back!  I'm going to see if there is a way that I can keep my fitness levels up without doing more damage.  I'm still determined to run having come this far.

Donating through this site is simple, fast and totally secure. It is also the most efficient way to sponsor me: Whirlow Hall Farm Trust will receive your money faster and, if you are a UK taxpayer, an extra 28% in tax will be added to your gift at no cost to you.

So please sponsor me now!

Many thanks for your support.
