In recent years both my stepfather and father have been diagnosed with forms of cancer, my stepdad, Chronic Lymphocytic Leukaemia, and my dad, Myelodysplastic Syndrome. Both conditions bring their own difficulties and trauma. After my stepfather received his chemotherapy less than 18 months ago, the cancer unfortunately has returned more aggressively. This is why I believe cancer research is so important, if not for the people we love now, but for the future generation, hoping our children and their children can then maybe find better treatments or even cures for as many of the 200 different types of cancer.

So I wanted to do something that could help raise money but also help others now, so I am shaving my hair off on the 5 September 2013. The headmaster of our local primary school has kindly allowed me to use the school hall so we can do it publically and parents and children can help support me through this memorable moment, if nothing else it should prove to be quite amusing as I am no Jessie J.

I am going to donate my hair to The Little Princess Trust who makes wigs for children who have lost their hair through chemotherapy or other disorders. Cancer devastates lives but it also brings great stories of courage and strength especially in children and their families. I am always in awe of how they cope and how brave they are and this is my salute to them and both my dad’s.
