Story
We are running the Brighton marathon to honour our Dad, the most remarkable man we will ever know, and to support a cause that means so much to us; Prostate Cancer UK. Our goal is to raise funds for lifesaving research and provide support for men and their families affected by prostate cancer.
Our lives were completely changed in July 2024 when we lost our Dad to prostate cancer. It was the hardest day we've ever faced, and we are still coping with the pain. Despite this, we promised to stay strong, and now we are more determined than ever to tackle any challenge and make our Dad proud. He was a true warrior, never backing down and fighting with incredible strength and positivity until the very end.
Dad had seven children. Alex, Vikki, Sarah and Paul have chosen to take on the Brighton Marathon challenge together, representing Dad in a way that will not be forgotten, whilst Chris, Matt and Andrew will be cheering us on from the sidelines.
Alongside the Brighton Marathon, Alex will also be running the London Marathon on April 27th. Having completed a few marathons in the past, he knows what to expect, but tackling two marathons within two weeks is still a significant challenge. When Alex secured his spot in the London Marathon, he made sure Dad was the first to know, even joking about running the Brighton Marathon as well. In which dad responded, "You'd be mad!"
Sadly, Dad passed away before we could share the news that we had secured places in the Brighton Marathon, but we know he will be looking down on us proud, and acting as our lucky charm on the day.
Prostate cancer is the most common cancer among men, with over 52,000 new diagnoses each year—about 144 men every day. Every 45 minutes, one man dies from prostate cancer, totaling more than 12,000 annually. One in eight men will be diagnosed in their lifetime, affecting fathers, partners, brothers, sons, grandfathers, uncles, and friends.
We would be immensely grateful for any donations to help us reach our fundraising goal. If you're unable to contribute, liking or sharing our fund raising page would also be greatly appreciated.
Thank you all in advance for you kindness and support.
