“Remembrance so that sacrifices are never forgotten”

On the morning of 9^th June a small party of villagers will set off from the WW1 memorial and, over the following five days, will visit the graves of all of the villagers killed in action in the years 1914 – 1918. In these years, twenty-five men of the village gave their lives. The youngest was 18 years old and the oldest 37 years. Two pairs of brothers, farmers, laborers, a doorman and railway men.  These men died and were buried in another country, far from their beloved families and village homes. All in the firmament of the first world war. 100 years since the end of the ‘Great War’, our village will remember these men.

The party will travel on this memorial tour on motor scooters (with a support vehicle), arriving in Dunkirk in the evening of the 9^th June, Ypres on the 10^th and the Somme on the 11^th June. The tour will be recorded and a few moments of silent remembrance held at each grave.
