In the final days of her life our beloved colleague Rosie requested that a charity be set up in her memory focusing on research into secondary breast cancer, for which there is currently no cure.
Bristows has been working closely with Rosie's friends and family to help establish a new charity to help fund vital research into a cure for secondary breast cancer. Currently, all the funds we raise are being donated via Breast Cancer Now to the research of Professor Andrew Tutt at the Institute of Cancer Research.
Professor Tutt’s work focuses on triple negative breast cancer, a particularly aggressive form of the disease that 7,500 women in the UK are diagnosed with every year. Rosie was among them.
Triple negative breast cancer lacks some of the proteins found in hormone positive breast cancers. It disproportionately affects younger women and has lower survival rates. So far, the disease has no targeted treatments to prevent it returning.
Professor Tutt is trying to change this. He is working to develop new drugs that prevent triple negative breast cancer from returning and potentially spreading to the secondary stage.
Secondary1st wants to put secondary breast cancer first; front of mind and top of the list. Bristows will be holding various events over the coming year to raise funds for Secondary1st and we look forward to joining together to support this cause.
By using this page you will be able to donate directly to the charity with gift aid for any of the events that people in the firm are participating in or events that Bristows have organised. Please check back periodically for an update on the most recent events.
