Story
After the success of our first charity stream, we have decided to host another 36 hour stream, this time raising money for a Brixton based charity that specialises in helping refugee's enter the United Kingdom and become accustomed to life here.
RefuAid was founded in 2015 in an effort to remove reliance on external aid and restore independence and dignity to refugees. They work with communities to provide long-term solutions that are successful, scalable and cost-effective. Their three main programs focus on language, requalification, and employment.
In partnership with English UK and private language schools and universities across the UK, RefuAid offer up to 32 hours a week of structured, intensive English language support. To date, over 700 people have graduated our language programme and gone on to higher education, professional requalification or accessed employment.
Through their Equal Access Loan Program, RefuAid provide interest free, character based loans of up to £10,000, for internationally trained refugees to pay for the UK requalification and training, enabling them to return to their prior professional fields. They have lent over 1.5 million. In their placement program, they work directly with employers to place refugees in top jobs, Since starting the programme, 60 people have been supported with employment opportunities commensurate with their experience. The majority of these are healthcare professionals, such as Doctors and Nurses who now work in the NHS.
