Story

We want to raise money and awareness for Necrotising Enterocolitis because not many people have heard of NEC although:

  • 3 babies die from NEC every week in the UK.
  • Many of the deaths occur in premature babies but it does happen in full term babies too.
  • More babies die from NEC than childhood leukaemia

Ethan has been diagnosed with NEC twice in his short life. Firstly, at 3 weeks old where he was treated with a cocktail of antibiotics and bowel rest. The second time Ethan was diagnosed with NEC, he was also in septic shock. Ethan needed life saving surgery where part of his bowel was removed and a stoma was formed. We were told there wasn't much else that could be done to save Ethan's life. We were lucky - a miracle happened and our baby boy is still with us today. Others are not as lucky as us because NEC takes over very quickly and can kill a baby within hours. We will be thinking of these angels during our walk.

NEC UK supports families affected by the condition at any stage of their journey. Our objectives are to support research, raise awareness and developing relationships with other organisations to give NEC a platform to be heard and improve the outcomes for babies affected by NEC and their families.

We are thankful for any sponsors and donations. The tiniest amount of money will make a big difference for this wonderful charity.
