Story
In August 2022 I will be joining Choose A Challenge to undertake the most physically and mentally demanding challenge I have ever done, in aid of Meningitis Research Foundation (MRF). I will be completing an 11 day trek, hiking over 18,500ft above sea level.
Meningitis affects more than 5 million people each year, killing 1/10. 90% of these 1/10 die within 24 hours of diagnosis. MRF aim to defeat Meningitis by 2030 by having effective vaccines and routine schedules in place to protect the high risk individuals, improved patient pathways and tools which allow for a quick diagnosis and suitable treatment, and for a more widespread knowledge on the symptoms of Meningitis
Meningitis is known for mostly affecting babies and children, however, University students are the second most at risk population. Symptoms of Meningitis include; nausea, headaches, a dislike of bright lights and drowsiness. These symptoms are why Meningitis can be passed off as a hangover, and why more people my age need to be aware of the symptoms.
