Story
Thanks for taking the time to visit my JustGiving page! I've decided to run Leeds 10k in June 2023 for Loose Headz; a charity I recently discovered that supports rugby players with their mental health.
Those who know me might wonder why a 10km run event, given that I basically grew up doing track sessions, long Sunday runs and muddy cross country races. That's because:
1) I want to enjoy every second of running for Loose Headz Foundation - and running a marathon just ain't it for me!
2) I'd like to think that this 10k is the start of my fundraising efforts. Next, it'll be 10 miles, then a trail half marathon... you never know :)
3) I want to do something that anyone supporting me could go "yh I could do that" because I honestly believe that every single girl I walk onto the rugby pitch with can do whatever they set their mind on... if they want to!
Personally, I've found that there are some brilliant mental health charities - take Movember for example. Then there are some fab charities supporting athletes' mental health - round of applause for State Of Mind. But Loose Headz stands out to me, supporting BOTH male and female rugby players as the skewed balancing scales of the sport tilt a little more to being 'equal' year-on-year.
Women are assumed to handle their mental health through chats with friends - an outdated stereotype, given the growth of social media. The sport has worked wonders for my own self-esteem, confidence and focus levels, allowing me to enjoy sport again after a rocky year leaving triathlon behind. Loose Headz mission is to place a mental health lead into every rugby club around the world and equip them with a toolkit of resources to help #TackleTheStigma.
So whether you're a rugby player, rugby supporter, or hate rugby but are a Bronwyn supporter (double thanks!), please give what you can, and help #TackleTheStigma with me.
Thanks for reading,
Bronners x
