I was hit at 50mph by a car whilst on a pavement in Manchester City Centre in 2007 when I was a student. My head broke the windscreen and I scored 3 on the Glasgow Coma Scale.. The impact cracked a bone in my neck, fractured the roof of my mouth, cracked my teeth, broke my left cheekbone, nose and jaw. I was in a coma 16 days, PTI 6 weeks and hospital 6 months. (So pretty bad! 😂)
The initial care you receive in the UK is brilliant, they’re great at saving your life! It’s afterwards that the mental health troubles start. You’ve got this massive problem that is largely invisible and you don’t know how to move forward in life. You don’t know how to fit back into the world and often become isolated.
The charity Same You are attempting to tackle this forgotten about stage of brain injury rehabilitation. I want to raise money to help the cause and raise awareness of brain injury! Although I’ve seen a lot of improvement in the last 14 years, there is sill a long way to go!
The thing I have suffered with the most is fatigue, I’m not going to promise to complete 100km I’m going to see how I feel on the day but I’m going to run/crawl:walk at least 50km! That’s 30 miles come on that’s not bad!
