Nick's Broseley Heritage Centre relaunch

Broseley Heritage Centre relaunch · 5 December 2022

Our churches - All Saints' Broseley, St Mary the Virgin Jackfield and St Giles Barrow - in the Broseley Group of parishes are places of stillness and peace amidst the rush and busyness of everyday life. As members of God's family, we meet regularly for worship and offer a warm welcome to all.

Story

This project was first put forward in 2014, and has been through a number of transformations, and a number of failed Heritage Lottery funding bids.

After much soul-searching it has been agreed by the committee that the major schemes originally proposed are not viable in light of the post-Covid change of priorities of the Heritage Lottery Fund. The funding received by public subscription, and from a number of grants etc will therefore be used to create a more modest Heritage centre in the church, using the space freed up by moving the organ to house a continuously updated display of local artefacts held by the Broseley Local History Society. The highlight of the display will, of course be the spectacular stained glass window by Charles Kempe, one the country’s most renowned pre-Raphaelite designers, which is currently hidden by the organ.

The centre will still be a focus for celebrating and sharing the rich industrial and social history of the town and its people, from the squatters who carved the unique ‘Jitties’, to the great innovators whose achievements helped to shape the Industrial Revolution and made the Ironbridge Gorge so significant a place in world history
