Uganda Half Marathon · 7 October 2017

It is a partnership between Poole Hospital NHS FT and Lira hospital and university in Northern Uganda. The current situation in South Sudan means we cannot continue in Wau at present. Our teams deliver teaching to health care professionals in developing areas to enable them to improve health care.

Story

Thanks for taking the time to visit my JustGiving page.

In October I will be part of a small team traveling to Uganda to support Doctors and Nurses there by teaching in their hospital.  I was due to travel there last year but unfortunately my motorbike lost an argument with a stone bridge and prevented this happening.

Now that I have been fixed, one year later, I am going to make the trip
with the Poole Africa Link charity.  The team comprises of
myself, a midwife, consultant paediatrician, consultant radiologist
and surgeon who will be teaching and providing mentoring support.
This is an ongoing project with the charity sending voluntary medical
staff from Poole Hospital at least twice a year.

The charity receives no support from the Hospital and is completely reliant on fund-raising.  Rather than just asking for donations to the charity I pledge to use my day off half way through the trip to run a half marathon.  Although most people know I'm a runner, I must admit to being "a bit broken" so this will definitely be a challenge.

Whether you want to see me suffer running in the heat of Africa, or want to support a fantastic cause improving Healthcare in a developing nation through teaching, please donate!
