London Paris Ride 2017 · 25 May 2017 to 29 May 2017 ·

Myeloma UK supporters cycling 500km from London to Paris in four days to raise funds for crucial myeloma research.

Story

Ok so I did this last year so you may be thinking 'why should I sponsor you if you've already ridden London to Paris in 2016?'. Firstly, it's an amazing charity doing crucial things for patients with Myeloma (a form of blood cancer - read below for more on this), reason enough to try to raise more cash. Secondly, this year anticipating this potential objection, I've decided to 'up the ante' and run a half marathon (Fleet in March) and a marathon (Manchester in April) ahead the ride itself (500km in 4 days in May) all in aid of this cause.

To be honest, last year I didn't know a huge amount about the disease area or the charity but I'd heard they were doing great things for myeloma patients, carers and their families. This year I know a lot more about the disease and the work the charity do so feel free to quiz me, however trust me the work they do is crucial and all the money I raise goes to them.

Myeloma is form of blood cancer that can affect people of
all ages but the median age of diagnosis is 70

There are approximately 4,800 people diagnosed each year in
the UK

Although significant progress in survival has been made
since the 1970's currently there is still no cure for this disease

Research is critically important because myeloma is a complex cancer with no known cure. It’s also relapsing and remitting which means many patients are in desperate need of that next treatment. Myeloma
UK work to accelerate the discovery and development of effective
treatments, and ultimately, to find a cure for myeloma.
