OLD MANCUNIANS AFC - BRUSSELS AND BACK AGAIN · 20 April 2020
Hello!
Thanks for taking the time to visit our JustGiving page.
We're Old Mancunians Football Club and we're looking to do our bit for the current strain on the NHS, and the charities closely involved with it. The NHS has proven over and over again why it is so valuable to the country, so as a club we have decided to do a little extra in saying thanks.
Our football season has unfortunately been declared nul and void for obvious reasons. A season where all the clubs were hoping for some sort of success.
The club have had close connections with the Christie Charitable Trust for some time, and we are looking to continue with this trend as we move into the new season.
What we will be doing...
After a lot of playing around on google maps, we figured out that it was (almost) exactly 700km to Brussels in Belgium. This means that a return journey would tally up to the grand total of 1400km.
26 members of the team are looking to run this distance in just 30 days! (Alone and socially distanced of course....)
We have set ourselves the target of £1000 to raise which will be going directly to the Christie Charitable fund!
We will be using a running app to accurately track the distances we will be covering. The challenge starts Monday 20th April and will go all the way up to the 20th of May! Game on!
Rules:
Every run must be tracked on the app "Strava" and logged in the Brussels and Back Strava Club so we can prove it was achieved after 30 days.
If this is achieved prior to the 30 day target, we continue to see just how far from Manchester we can end up
The runner to cover the highest KM in the 30 day period will receive a new Old Mancs training T shirt (funded privately not by donations).
Walking counts (although frowned upon)...a few of the boys are recovering from injuries but still keen to do their bit.
The 2.6 Challenge...
"In response to the cancellation of thousands of events due to the COVID-19 Pandemic, the organisers of the biggest mass-participation sports events across the country have joined forces."
The 26th April was the date of the 40th London marathon prior to it's cancellation. For this reason, the Christie Charity is asking people to host activities of our own with either the number 2.6 or 26. For this reason, we have selected 26 runners to help us achieve our aim!
A bit about the charity...
"The Christie charity provides enhanced services over and above what the NHS funds. Gifts from the public make a huge difference to the care and treatment that The Christie is able to provide to our patients and their families.
While we have achieved a phenomenal amount thanks to the backing of our donors, this doesn’t mean we can be complacent with our achievements. We always have plans in the pipeline to further improve our services. We have big goals and ambitions for the future, and all of these require your support.
We are one of the largest hospital charities in the UK with 81p in every pound raised going directly to the patients"
Donating through JustGiving is simple, fast and totally secure. Your details are safe with JustGiving - they'll never sell them on or send unwanted emails. Once you donate, they'll send your money directly to the charity. So it's the most efficient way to donate - saving time and cutting costs for the charity."
