Story
Thanks for taking the time to visit my JustGiving page.
I will be once again stepping into the unknown on behalf of Liz and the wonderful gang at Cedar House and attempting to undertake the biggest physical and mental challenge of my life to date. For those of you who are not familiar with a Deca Ironman I will be swimming 2.4 miles in a lake, cycling 112 miles around the same lake, getting off my bike and running a full marathon around the very same lake continuously every day for 10 days straight. In total I will swim 24 miles, cycle 1120 miles and run 262 miles in 10 days.
The reason for this is to raise as much money as I can for The Cedar House Support Group who offer free of charge counselling groups to mums suffering from post natal depression. This is a common issue that many mums deal with often alone or in silence, the groups give mums a real opportunity to openly discuss their thoughts and feelings with trained professionals and other mums facing the same situations. The charity provide a safe environment for mums to visit weekly with a creche manned by volunteers where children can be cared for giving mums a chance to talk freely and better understand their feelings and the effects of PND.
My wife Fiona suffered PND some 6 years ago but the memories of her suffering are as fresh today as they were then, without the intervention of this charity I am unsure where we would be today, I vowed at the time to repay the debt of gratitude the charity showed my family and so I continue in my quest to help raising funds so they can keep putting on these groups for free. The charity is now a real part of our lives with Fiona now being a trustee of the charity and a creche worker all of which she does for free to purely help other mums in the same position she was in at the beginning of her journey.
The charity is mainly volunteer based with only one paid professional counselor , every penny raised goes to putting on more groups and helping more mums. I will take myself to hell and back in a cart on this event but if I can help just one family it will be worth every second of the torture, please donate whatever you can to help Cedar House to keep helping mums and families in the local area.
Thank you in advance of your generosity
Simon, Fiona, Patric and Poppy xxxx
