We raise funds for pediatric cancer research in memory of our sweet girl Brya, who is forever 12 years old. We hope that all children will soon have much better treatment options when they are diagnosed with cancer. Brya deserved more, and so do all our kids.
Brya loved swimming and playing with her friends. She was an amazing, kind, loving, fun, big sister to her three little sisters- and she always helped out with them willingly because she adored them so much. Her mom, Lynn, said that she was kind of like her right hand.
At the beginning of 2015, when Brya was just five years old, her parents started to notice that she was having a lot of migraine like headaches. They took her to her doctor, who referred them to a pediatric neurologist at Blank Children's Hospital. What they found in her brain scan shocked them all. Sweet, little Brya had a tumor on her brain stem and was diagnosed with Medulloblastoma. Just a couple of days after her diagnosis, Brya endured major brain surgery to remove her tumor. After surgery she endured over a year of intensive chemotherapy and radiation treatment (57 weeks total) in an effort to save her life from the cancer. For a while it seemed like it might have worked.
Sadly, after more than 4 years of remission, Brya's family was absolutely heartbroken to learn that their sweet 11 year-old, who had already fought and beat cancer once, had developed a secondary cancer CAUSED by the toxic treatment that she was given to save her life. For the next year, Brya fought with everything she had, but in August of 2021 she passed away. The world will never be the same.
Brya was a fierce fighter who made many friends with her nurses and doctors, and with other children fighting cancer like her. She was an inspiration to so many people who knew her and watched her fight.
She is missed by all who love her, and she is remembered every day.
We will not stop fighting for all of the children out there who are diagnosed with cancer like our Brya. Will you help us?
