Alzheimer’s Research UK is the UK’s leading dementia research charity. We’re striving for a cure, by revolutionising the way we treat, diagnose and prevent dementia.

Story

Bryan Hogg and I have both lost family and friends to Alzheimer‘s, we are taking part in the Rust2Rome Sahara Desert Rally starting on the 5th of April 2020, the rally will take 18 days 4000 miles. Our team name is the The Two Old Dessert Rats very suitable for our age, George Rigby 66, Bryan Hogg 58 Driving an old banger from South Queensferry to Plymouth, ferry to North Spain driving Spain to the South, ferry to Morocco then on to the Sahara Desert. 6 days Rallying around the Sahara Desert then return journey to our homes in Scotland, at present we don’t have the exact route. We are not given the route until a couple of weeks before we we go, we are only give a rough idea of the route. We must do it in an old banger, we have bought a 2007 Subaru Outback 130,000 miles on the clock, some work to do on it to get it ready. We are lucky we have a couple of good friends that will help us get the car ready, Danny Duncan‘s Garage Falkirk giving us the use of his garage, my nephew Colin Will to assist with mechanical issues, and John Henderson of Falburn Engineering Plean for strengthening the body work. All cost are covered by Bryan and myself, all monies raised will go to the charity.
