Story
We are delighted to announce that our charity partner for the 2021 Buccleuch Property Challenge is the Borders Children's Charity. We are aiming to raise £10,000 for this wonderful charity.
The Borders Children's Charity (BCC) exists to help children aged 0-18 living in the Scottish Borders, by relieving poverty, sickness and distress and advancing education. BCC have been helping local children for over 50 years. The charity is run entirely by a committee of volunteers, which means they have minimal overheads and 99% of all donations are given directly to the children.
The charity provides financial assistance for children in desperate situations as per below:-
* Provide beds, bedding, bedroom furniture and floor rugs - often children are either sharing beds, have no bed, or what they do have is in an appalling condition.
* Assist with special equipment and funding for various disability needs - physical and mental
* Give clothing and footwear - a basic need that too many families struggle to meet.
* Finance requests for treats or holidays for young carers who are often not only looking after a parent, but siblings as well.
* Enable children in chaotic, stressful and abusive circumstances to enjoy activities - such as hobbies, sporting activities or school trips.
How does the charity operate:-
* The charity will receive applications from professionals working with Borders children - social workers, head teachers, community nurses, health visitors, etc.
* BCC meet monthly to discuss requests and allocate funds.
* Any urgent requests are fast tracked to ensure children receive the funding immediately.
In 2017, the Borders Children's Charity were awarded The Queen's Award for Voluntary Service - the MBE for voluntary groups.
Thank you for taking the time to visit our JustGiving page and helping us to raise valuable funds for these young people who need our help more than ever after this very difficult year.
