Story

A message from Noel Buckley:

On the 26th June 2020 my friend and colleague Leah McDermott passed away at the Garden House Hospice after she lost her battle with cancer. Leah was an inspiration to us all and I am truly honoured to have known her and worked with her for the last 18 years. I never got the chance to tell Leah that I was going to complete this walk and raise money for cancer, however I know that she raised so much money for cancer over the years and so I know she will be happy.
Over the last 5 years I have lost 2 other work colleagues, Ailsa Turnbull and Rosario Torrisi, and my Dad to cancer.

In 2011 I was diagnosed with a very rare form of blood cancer and I have been having treatment at Guys Hospital in London since then. My particular type is only found in one in a million of those who have the condition.

I want to raise money for Macmillan Cancer Support by completing a challenge.

On Sunday 27th September 2020 myself and my friend and colleague Ashleigh Begg will be walking 30 miles in memory of Leah and our friends and family that have lost their lives to cancer. The plan is to walk to all the Police Stations that I have worked with Leah in over the last 18 years. We will start at Borehamwood Police Station, the last place she worked, and then go to South Mimms Police Station. We will then walk from there to Hertfordshire Police HQ and then onto Hatfield Police Station. From there we will walk to St Albans Police Station which is where I first met Leah in August 2002. From there we will walk back to Borehamwood Police Station where our journey will end. We estimate our journey will take approximately 12 hours, giving a small amount of time for breaks!

Please donate anything you can to this charity – every pound adds up!
