Story
2020 has already been a year like no other and the challenges that everyone face right now impact on every part of people’s lives. Charities are no different and Sunday 26th April should have seen
thousands line up to take on the mission of running 26.2 miles around the streets of London for the marathon.
Unfortunately we can’t help replace those magical moments but what we can do is help bring together the amazing Bud’s Run community to support Parkinson’s UK and the loss of fundraising they are experiencing due to so many fantastic events being lost like this Sunday. Over the past five years, you fabulous people have helped us to raise over £85,000, with your help we know we can reach this year's goal of £26,200 to fund further research into the disease.
The challenge is simple – run, walk, or cycle your way around whichever route you are able to safely negotiate to help us cover 26,200 miles as a team. Laps of your garden, your local park, or a daily walking route – the choice is yours and of course you don’t have to do it all in one go. You may want to get people to sponsor you, or you may prefer just to donate, we would suggest £2 per mile covered but again this is entirely up to you and every donation will make a huge difference. All you need to do is cover as many miles as you can, donate via our page and post the distance covered in the comments section – we will track it from there and keep you updated via our social media pages. Don't forget to nominate your friends to help support you.
Bud will be doing his miles on a static bike as the running is more difficult now but that same indomitable spirit most of you know and love is as strong as ever and we’ve no doubt you can all take on our own individual challenges here (probably with whichever of his ‘inspirational catchphrases’ still rings in your ears to motivate you) and help us make a success of this.
Times may never have been tougher for many but communities all over the world are showing just how supportive people can be and the Buds Run community has proven time and again their ability to do something special when needed. Can you, your friends and amazing families help us travel 26,200 miles?
1 in every 500 people has Parkinson’s disease in the UK and this figure is likely to rise. Every hour 2 people are told they have Parkinson’s disease. There is currently no cure. Research is integral to identifying a cure and the funds raised so far from Bud’s Run have already helped us to fund a research project looking at movement and mobility in those suffering with the disease commissioned by Parkinson’s UK and led by Dr Ned Jenkinson at The University of Birmingham. We need more of these projects and you can help us.
So lace up those trainers and have some fun. All donations big and small are most welcome and greatly appreciated. YOU CAN MAKE A DIFFERENCE!
Take care, stay safe and keep your distance whilst going the distance. Good luck!
