Bullock Smithy Hike · 10 August 2008
This year's Bullock Smithy proved to be a brutal challenge. The new route is much tougher than the one I completed 10 years ago. The weather was hot and humid until evening, followed by rain and mist over the difficult night sections. The cross-country paths were raging torrents and at one or two stages we were up to our shins in muck and grime. Anyone who got past 20 miles deserved a medal in my book as the winning times this year were an hour and a half slower than usual. Finishing was certainly a matter of good fortune (avoiding illness and injury on the day)!
David Bibby, a local Broadbottom lad and until recently Governor of Broadbottom School finished in 19 hours along with myself in just under 16 hours. Jane Harvey also a governor at the school had an amazing walk, navigating through the difficult night sections up to the 42 mile point. Our grateful thanks go to those who supported us on the day: Wendy and Sally and Chris, Maurice on his bike and Rory Heydon and his dad, Jon, Chair of Governors in the support team. Without their help it would have been pretty miserable and they made the difference between success and failure.
Thanks for visiting our fundraising page. Please give generously, as all monies received will be divided equally between Francis House Children's Hospice in Manchester and Broadbottom C.E. Primary School where I am the Vicar.
Donating through Justgiving is quick, easy and totally secure. It’s also the most efficient way to sponsor me: Broadbottom School Trust gets your money faster and, if you’re a UK taxpayer, Justgiving makes sure 25% in Gift Aid, plus a 3% supplement, are added to your donation.
Thank you for your support - we certainly earned it on the day!
