Story

Thanks for taking the time to visit my JustGiving page.

Just recently (February) I experienced yet another crazy injury which resulted in an operation (my 3rd) on my right leg sustained whilst doing one of my favourite things: playing footie.   Alongside the fantastic care and support from my partner and family,  I have had the most wonderful care, met the most wonderful staff and also connected with lots of people as I've travelled around London.  People I met were always keen to help me along, give up their seat, and at times just call out as I went along that they wanted me to get better soon.  Complete strangers.  It made me feel what a great thing it is to connect with others in ways unexpectedly and how great communication between us really can be.  I've learnt stories of others injuries, of people who are poorly in other ways and how at times it gets frustrating if illness and injury interrupts our usual life patterns.  I have been blessed to yet again recover almost fully (I still have much physio work to do) but in doing so wanted to try and raise some funds for what is a very overstretched and overworked NHS service.  When I have sat in clinics through numerous appointments and waited sometimes I've watched how many patients go through, how much time and information the staff convey, at all levels, to us the patients who are made to feel comfortable and cared for even at times of great stress and pressure.  It's such a hard thing to swallow to know that we are now in a position in this country where this sort of fundraising is necessary.  However within that realisation, comes a collective sense of how it's unjust and unfair.   A collective that wants to do more and raise more money to enable better care for all.  For this reason and the fact that the fundraisers at Kings are very very good at their jobs, I joined the fundraising event there and abseiled off of the side of the Hospital directly after my appointment in the Orthopaedic Clinic today with no notice, (on a work day!)    I would like to raise money for the hospital by way of a thank you, and to mark and celebrate that I have yet again a sense of feeling blessed as I journey towards a full recovery.  Please give as much as you feel able.  Thanks for reading in any case.  Happy Weekend.
