It’s that time of the year again where I ask you to donate to a good cause. This year it’ll be a little different though as I’m going to do three races over the course of two days as part of the RDC Challenge:

10k (6.2 mi) followed by a 5k (3.1 mi) on Saturday, then a half marathon (13.1 mi) on Sunday.

Since 2003, we have raised over $100k for various charities in Bryon’s memory through my running different marathons and half-marathons. This year, I’m looking to raise $7k for the Leukemia and Lymphoma Society (LLS) in memory of my brother, Bryon Tyler Burdick. He died in 1989, just four days after being diagnosed with leukemia.

The LLS is the world's largest voluntary health agency dedicated to blood cancer. The LLS mission: Cure leukemia, lymphoma, Hodgkin's disease and myeloma, and improve the quality of life of patients and their families. LLS funds lifesaving blood cancer research around the world and provides free information and support services.  Thanks to donations and research over the past 29 years, medicine and treatment of leukemia has come a long ways, greatly improving the odds of survival. The races are on Nov 10th and 11th, in Durham.  My race goals are to primarily be as fast as I can be without being hurt.  Ideally my training will put me at around 40 min for the 10k, 20 min for the 5k, and 90 min for the half. We’ll see how realistic those goals are with limited recovery time.
