Story
Last year for the first time I
actually went up to London
to watch the marathon because my son Sam was running. I had never experienced
an occasion of such positivity and general good will amongst so many people
from so many different walks of life. Just like Sam, the year before, I got caught up in the positive atmosphere, so much so that I too decided I wanted to
see what it would feel like to actually run rather than just watch. Consequently
I entered the ballot and much to my surprise, and my wife Annie's dismay, on
October the 1st I got an email confirming I was in!! After the initial warm
feeling I felt at having been selected,(Pick me! Pick me!), I had the dawning
realization of what lay ahead and the training that I would have to do in
order to complete the task I had committed to. I promised Annie I would train and
if my body told me not to continue I would pull out. During my initial training I did not set
about trying to raise any money for a charity just in case the worst happened,
but apart from a few minor hiccups the training seems to be going to plan, well sort of a plan. So it is time to get down to some serious fund raising which will give me a fresh
impetus to continue with the training which I tell you is not easy as, like Sam stated last year, the male Oxley genes have been honed over many generations to create a body built for comfort rather than speed!!.
Many of you will have heard of the charities WIPE AWAY THOSE TEARS (WATT) www.wipeawaythosetears.org which is a charity that aims to grant a wish and bring a sparkle into the lives of terminally or seriously ill children in Essex and SPECIAL NEEDS AND PARENTS (SNAP) http://www.snapcharity.org which helps Essex families with children and young people who have any special need and disability. These are local charities and close to my heart. I also know the people who run both charities and know that the money raised is distributed properly and not diluted by huge administration costs, like some of the bigger charities, so please give as generously as you can as your donation will make a difference to those who really need it. I am not a subscriber to Facebook (yet) but I do recognize that there are certain good aspects to being a subscriber, re distribution of information, so please to those of you who are members please “like” this JustGiving page and help spread the word and bring in the funds.
Many thanks for all your supportBuster
