Story

The Wilderness Survival Challenge

After the success of our Six Peaks Challenge, we’re back with an even tougher test of endurance. This time we are fighting to survive, completely isolated from the outside world, in the harsh climate of the UK’s largest woodland, Galloway Forest, in Scotland. We will endure sub-zero temperatures, harsh winds and tough terrain as we struggle to build our shelter, find food and survive the week, to complete our second challenge for The Butterfly AVM Charity. Last time, with your help, we managed to raise over £6000 for this great cause; this time, we have upped the ante as we rely upon our own initiative to last in the wilderness.

With the completion of our February survival course, we are now aware of the potential dangers this challenge involves, as not only will we be battered by the weather and terrain, but as hunger and sleep deprivation manifests, so to will the chances of making fatal errors, miles away from emergency aid. To minimise this risk, we will all be trained in first aid, as well as honing vital survival skills, such as: crafting, fire making, hunting, foraging and food preparation with our bare-bones ‘Bear Grylls-esque’ kit list.

The demanding nature of this challenge cannot be overstated, but we are more motivated than ever to triumph, and raise awareness for a charity so close to all of our hearts. Any donation, large or small, goes towards improving the lives of people who would otherwise silently suffer with this rare disease.

Collectively we have known Nikki for many years and have seen her flourish into the inspiration she has become to people of all ages, despite all of the obstacles in her path. It never ceases to amaze us how she gracefully copes with adversity whilst still doing far more with her life, than many of us could imagine doing with our own. As a group, we want to ensure a brighter future for Nikki and AVM sufferers all over the world by raising as much as we can for 'The Butterfly AVM Charity' in the hope that one day everyone can be AVM free.

'Don't wish for a change, make it happen'
