Story

BVNA are inviting the veterinary community to get involved with a sponsored fun run during National Veterinary Nursing Awareness Month 2022 in memory of veterinary nurse, Jean Turner.

BVNA President, Alex Taylor and some of the office team will be running 5k on Saturday 7th May in memory of Jean, to raise awareness of the Daphne Shipman Benevolent Fund which Jean supported since its launch in 1999.

Please help by joining us and participating in a local Park Run during May (which you can also walk if you wish) and donating in memory of Jean.  To find your local park run please visit www.parkrun.org.uk

We're encouraging everyone during May to get active so even if you don't want to run at an event, please consider running or walking the 5k at your own pace.

Jean qualified as a Registered Animal Nursing Auxiliary (RANA) in 1971 and worked in general practice until 1998. Her impact to the veterinary nursing profession and the BVNA was remarkable.  Jean was an active BVNA Council member for sixteen years, on the Editorial Board for the VNJ (Veterinary Nursing Journal) as well as a trustee of the BVNA Daphne Shipman Benevolent Fund.

Over her career Jean trained many veterinary nurses, as well as being an RCVS Examiner and Trustee. In 2011 she won the prestigious RCVS Veterinary Nursing Golden Jubilee Award for her outstanding contribution to veterinary nursing.
