Story

To raise funds to support the ministry of the church of St Mary Magdalen, Oxford, the choir of Mary Mags is going to perform the complete latin works of William Byrd within a 24-hour period, directed by Will Dawes (Director of Music) along with the directors of music at numerous other Oxford Colleges. There are approx. 200 motets, and 3 Masses, adding up to around 16 hours of music making. Byrd is the most represented composer in the choirs’ library - there aren’t many composers whose works consistently please singer, congregation, and clergy alike!

We first embarked on this project in 2017, and are looking forward to reprising it in 2023, the 400th anniversary of the death of William Byrd. Whether you're supporting the church, the musicians, the music, or the craziness of the idea, do please give generously. Many thanks!

About the charity

The Trust raises funds to support the mission of St Mary Magdalen, a church in the centre of Oxford whose ministry reaches far beyond that city. It is an island of stillness amid the rush of its surroundings, and houses an ever-growing worshipping community in the catholic tradition of Anglicanism.
