For this charity challenge, I will summit Mount Kilimanjaro on a 6-day expedition in October 2019

Mount Kilimanjaro is the highest mountain in the continent of Africa, and the tallest free standing mountain in the world. The summit stands at 5,895 metres or 19,300 feet. 

For my efforts, I am hoping to raise as much money as I can for St Barnabas House. 

St Barnabas House provides specialist palliative care to adults with life-limiting illnesses, both within the hospice and in the comfort of patients’ homes across West Sussex.

Sadly on the 16 September 2019 Mum lost her battle to IPF. She fought right up until the end and for that I’m so proud to call her my mum, she’s nothing short of a hero and I will love her forever. 

I plan on taking some of her ashes up to the summit with me to let her climb one last mountain and for her to finally fly free from the hospitals and oxygen masks that consumed her. Trekking up Mt Kilimanjaro with her right by my side makes that an even more special occasion.  She was looking forward to watching me do this trip and now she gets to do it with me.

Mum was a patient at St Barnabas House Hospice who provided her with specialist care, allowing her to be as relaxed as she could be. Since the move, we had nothing but dedicated support from all of the staff and for that, we are eternally grateful. 

St Barnabas allow for treatment to be carried out at home and they also hold daily events for all residents which gave Mum and others a chance to socialise, most of whom also have life limiting illnesses.

It allowed Mum to not have the fear of going to hospital, giving a sense of security and comfort in her surroundings which is something that we were so relieved to be able to see.

I cannot thank you all enough for the amazing support  everyone has given me and my family.
