Race the Sun - Coniston · 18 September 2021 ·

Teams of four will be setting off at sunrise on this Triathlon-style adventure challenge aiming to finish before the sun sets! Teams will mountain bike, hike and canoe around the breath-taking Lake District.

Story

On the 18th September, me and 3 other members of Aycliffe Tri Club will be taking on the Race the Sun Challenge in Coniston.

Starting at dawn, we will mountain bike up into Grizedale Forest, around some of the forest's toughest trails, before riding back down to base camp. From there, we will hike up and back down Coniston's Old Man, before kayaking 2 miles around the lake.

As a team, we will be aiming to complete the challenge before the sun sets!

BIKE - HIKE - KAYAK

Challenge Day! You will wake early for a pre-challenge breakfast before teams of four begin the adventure with the bike section up the hill and into Grizedale Forest. The circuit in the forest is one of the Lake District's most famous mountain biking locations. You can guarantee you will be well tested on the forest tracks before descending back to Coniston.

Next up is the steep, thigh-bursting trek to the summit of the Old Man of Coniston, a classic Lake District mountain looming over the surrounding countryside at 803 metres above sea level.

The final section sees you challenge yourself to a circular kayak loop on Coniston Water
