Story

Hello and welcome to this epic challenge for a great cause! Background  to this walk is at the bottom of the page below the updates.Thank you to everyone for your fantastic support.

Setting off from Mothecombe at 7.25 am on the 29th March, the long walk began . . . . . it wasn't raining!

Walk summary

We managed to complete the walk in the initial target of 4 days, with a final time of 4 days, 12 hours and 15 minutes, with a total walking time of around 40 hours. The weather was horrendous, the ground coated in the thickest mud we've ever seen, and the temperatures far below what we were expecting for a nice spring walk, but on the last day we pushed the last 32miles in 12 hours, getting in around 2 hours earlier than expected, and we were really happy with the achievement! 5 days later and we're still recovering from destroyed feet and ground-up joints but well worth it in the end! Thank you all so much for your support of the challenge!

The Cause & Challenge

The aim of this challenge is to walk from Mothecombe (South West Devon coast) to Lynmouth (North Devon Coast), through Dartmoor, Mid-Devon and then Exmoor, a total distance of about 200km, and we're hoping to complete it between just 4-5 days. We're leaving early morning on Monday 29th March and have made room until the Friday to finish, although we're hoping to finish on the Thursday night, meaning we're walking about 30miles a day and carrying nearly all the gear for the expedition with us.

All money donated on this page will be going to an extremely worthwhile charity, Dame Hannah Rogers Trust. The Dame Hannah Rogers Trust, based in Ivybridge, Devon, has been transforming young lives for over 220 years and now provides education, therapy and respite care for young people aged 5 - 25 with a range of physical disabilities and associated learning difficulties, greatly improving their quality of life; and we think this is a fantastic local charity to support.
