Story

On July 26 2017, I was hit by a car in a hit and run incident in the town of Ulverston, Cumbria. I was thrown 30ft into the air, landing on the concrete and hitting my head hard. The amazing ambulance crew that attended me that day made the swift decision to call in the assistance of the doctor and paramedic team of the Great North Air Ambulance.

I'm in no doubt that the actions of the ambulance service, and the Great North Air Ambulance crews on this day absolutely saved my life. Following the incident, I had a long road to recovery, spending over 5 weeks in hospital before recovering further at home.

For more about this surreal time, here's a blog written by myself and my fiancée Joanna : https://jacktalbot07.wordpress.com/

On my discharge, I made a decision: I decided that I wanted to give back to the guys that saved my life in a big way. As a cyclist, it had to be an epic ride, an epic ride that passes close to both the Great North Air Ambulance bases in Penrith and Durham.

The epic route decided is the Coast to Coast route, Walney to Wear https://ridewithgps.com/routes/26714897

This 155-mile ride will be completed in just a day. Starting out at around 5am, and arriving some time in the early evening, this WILL be an epic ride. With plenty of riders taking part, we should raise a good amount of money for this amazing charity.

It astounds me that these guys aren't funded by the NHS, and rely on donations to stay in the air. Without them, I wouldn't be here to complete this ride. Let's help these guys stay in the air, and continue to provide these critical interventions to save lives just like mine.
