Story
Let me start by introducing myself. I am CSgt Tom Robertshaw and I am currently employed within 1 LANCS as a CQMS. I am a keen cyclist and have a back ground in endurance sports, predominantly triathlon having completed Ironman Bolton 2019. I had the pleasure of joining Chris Brannigan for a short period en route to RMAS on his Barefoot March. I was absolutely blown away and inspired by his sheer will and individual determination to generate awareness for HOPEFORHASTI.
The Alfred Wainwrights coast to coast is by far one of the most popular long distance trail walks in the country. The C2C starts from the Irish Sea at St Bees head and finishes at Robin Hoods Bay on the North Sea shoreline accumulating a distance 192 miles. On the way it passes through three national parks: The Lake District, the Yorkshire Dales and the North Yorkshire Moors.
My Intent is quite simple; to start at St Bees as early as possible and to achieve 26.2 miles (or as close to) a day and have 4 hours’ rest. This is subject to change due to my overall fatigue and navigation. The rest maybe pushed to 5 hours’ and then possibly 6 hours’ in the final stages of the event. I will be purely self-sufficient when I comes to nutrition, hydration and my accommodation.
In summary, the C2C is a personal ambition that is focused around promoting the excellent campaign work that has already been established #HOPEFORHASTI. That been said, its also my intent to capture anyone that is wishing to challenge themselves over some difficult terrain testing their own personal leadership through endurance that may not ever have that opportunity.
