Mt Kilimanjaro - The Lemosho Trail Hiking Challenge · 25 June 2010

CAFT helps children aged 17 and under who through no fault of their own miss out on the normalities of childhood. A free day visit, residential stay or themed visit, provides these children with a much needed opportunity to have fun & laughter and to simply enjoy being children.

Story

Hi! Welcome to my fundraising page for my Kilimanjaro trek in June...Standing at an impressive 5,895m over the African plains, Mt Kilimanjaro is the world’s highest free-standing mountain. We fly to Nairobi on the evening of 25/6/10 and begin the climb on 28/6. Spending 8 days on the mountain, we will follow the Lemosho Trail, made famous by the Comic Relief celebrity Kilimanjaro trekkers. We will start in the rainforest of the Lemosho Glades and push our way up towards our goal – Uhuru Peak – the summit, experiencing every eco-system known to man. Think…….no running water, pit toilets, altitude sickness, headaches, dizziness, loss of appetite, temperatures from 35 degrees to -12 and 12 or more hours tough trekking on summit day with a midnight start…….and you’ll understand why this is a real challenge and potentially my summer holiday!!

I am doing this to raise money for the Children’s Adventure Farm Trust (CAFT) in Lymm, Cheshire. CAFT works with children from all over the north west who are terminally ill, chronically sick, disabled and disadvantaged. Without this amazing charity, these children would never experience the simple pleasures that most of us took for granted in our own childhoods - enjoying the outdoors, playing with friends and having fun. They are experiencing things that you and I will hopefully never have to contemplate. Help me to help these children who have so much suffering in their lives, to have a childhood. I am funding the trip myself and so all donations will go straight to CAFT and if you are a UK taxpayer, an extra 25% in tax will be added to your gift at no extra cost to you.

Many of you were incredibly generous in 2008 when I trekked The Great Wall of China and we raised in excess of £5K for CAFT. I realize that times are tougher these days but whatever you can afford will make a difference – I am allowed to exceed my target! I hope that you will support me in whatever way you can and I’ll be thinking of you, your generosity and the children every painful step of the way.

Thanks so much!
