Story
Thanks for visiting our fundraising page.
Ben and I are hiking 104 km (65 miles) and up a couple of 1km+ mountains in the Cairngorms to start to raise money to help fund a 4 wheel drive all terrain wheelchair for my step-sister Jodie, so she can enjoy exploring the hills and countryside as much as we do!
Jodie has Spina Bifida and uses an electric wheel-chair to get around. She currently has a chair that is fine on stable ground but struggles on even the slightest muddy slope. Ben and I are aiming for the Extreme X8 wheelchair which would allow Jodie access to a much wider range of terrains.
Ben and I are old school friends from Edinburgh who have been hill walking and camping for 15+ years. I am based in London with my wife Tara and Ben lives in Edinburgh with his fiancee Sally.
We are planning to set off on Saturday and climb Lochnagar, walk through Braemar on Sunday and climb Ben Avon, reaching the summit on Monday morning. We'll then walk back through Braemar and on Tuesday and head towards Glen Clova to finish.
Here is what Jodie has to say about the event:
“Thank you for doing this Dougie & Ben. Being able to go on more interesting walks with Buster would be great. I love the chair I have but it’s not so good for bumps or slopes. I’d love to be able to go on the beach at with Buster. When we went last time, I had to watch him running around the beach having fun while I was stuck on the pavement. Thank you all very much, Jodie X”
Donating through Justgiving is quick, easy and totally secure. It’s also the most efficient way to sponsor us: Radio Forth's Cash for Kids gets your money faster and, if you’re a UK taxpayer, Justgiving makes sure 25% in Gift Aid, plus a 3% supplement, are added to your donation.
So please sponsor us now!
Ben and I are now back from our hike and our bodies are slowly recovering. We completed our intended route and had to add an extra 5 miles due to bad weather. I will being to upload our pictures and stories over the coming days. Thanks to everyone for their support :-)

If you haven't sponsored us yet, NOW is your chance (and you don't have to walk anywhere with a 25kg rucksack)!
