Roundabout Sleep Out · 24 November 2017 ·
Roundabout is Sheffield's youth homeless charity. Every day, we provide shelter and support to over 150 young people in Sheffield who are homeless or at risk of becoming homeless. I've been working for Roundabout in fundraising & comms for nearly 2 years now, and this will be the third Sleep Out event that I have helped to organise.
Call me biased, but the work that this charity does really is incredible. Every single member of staff goes above and beyond their role to help young people, at a time when they're at their most vulnerable.
The demand on our services is higher than ever, so raising funds is vital to make sure we can continue to be there for young people and ultimately, end youth homelessness.
At the Sleep Out, participants will be getting sponsored to sleep in a cold warehouse in Sheffield at 92 Burton Rd. It's the end of November. It's nearly winter. I'm a wimp. AND, as I'm one of the organisers, I have to stay awake all night to look after all our sleepers! Help...
This event is not meant to replicate the realities of homelessness, but instead give a small insight into what it could be like. We can sit there throughout the night and count down the hours to when we can go home and crawl into a warm bed. A luxury which many who are homeless and have nowhere safe to stay don't have.
Your donations will help provide a safe place for young people and help us to provide the support and life skills they need to help break the cycle of homelessness. Our work is a lifeline for many and allows the young people we work with to prepare for a better future. From £5 which would buy bedding for a young person when they move into the hostel or their own flat to £5,000 which will house a young person for a full year – it all makes a difference to some of the most vulnerable young people in Sheffield.
Thank you.
